Ask for the Review, but make it easy

I had a recent experience with a tourist guide. Where and who is not important. She verbally asked us to review our evening.

I had a great time and was ready to give a 5-star review. I couldn´t. The virtual tickets were a gift. I had no email, website, or social media to track down, only the name of the experience. So I searched the internet and found that name several times on booking sites, not Google Business or the company's social media and web presence. All the entries were years old. I couldn't even be sure it was the same company.

Being uncertain, I didn't leave a review because I could not be sure I was reviewing the right guides. A 5-star review was irretrievably lost through bad planning.

Of course you earned a good review. The very fact that your business works and grows is proof. But it doesn't matter if the customer must work too hard to actually give the review. So, it is essential to make it easy for customers to leave a good review.

By all means ask for or even stipulate a 5-star review. But make it easy. Send a thank you email after the show, or provide a review card with your info, or provide a souvenir of a picture postcard, or text the buyer. But make creating a review easy. for them.

The saddest part about my adventure was that a cookie was distributed at the end. But without any reference to the company name or contact information. If only a sticker had been put on the cookie wrapper….
